Census information is confidential and safe
The questionnaire does not ask for social security numbers or citizenship status. Further, during the 2020 Census, the Census Bureau will never ask for:
- Your Social Security Number.
- Your bank account or credit card numbers.
- Anything on behalf of a political party.
- Money or donations.
The fair share of funds for community services
Hillsborough County’s share of an annual $675 billion of federal funds and support is based on population totals and demographics. The County benefits the most when everyone is counted. Read about how the Census will help shape Hillsborough's future.
In Hillsborough County, support from the census can be used to fund:
- Roads and highways
- Public safety
- Emergency Preparedness
- Social service programs
The data from the Census will also decide:
- The number of United States House of Representatives received by the state
- Voting districts
But that’s not all. Businesses will use data from the census to decide locations for new factories, offices, stores, and create more jobs. Developers use the data to decide where to build homes and new neighborhoods. Residents can use the census to support community initiatives involving legislation, quality-of-life, and advocacy.
