On April 1, 2020, Hillsborough County will take part in the 2020 United States Census. Poised to break over 1.5 million residents, this census will be a large part of determining Hillsborough County’s future.
Hillsborough County’s share of an annual $675 billion of federal funds and support is based on population totals and demographics. The County benefits the most when everyone is counted.
In Hillsborough County, support from the census can be used to fund:
- Roads and highways
- Public safety
- Emergency Preparedness
- Social service programs
The data from the Census will also decide:
- The number of United States House of Representatives received by the state
- Voting districts
But that’s not all. Businesses will use data from the census to decide locations for new factories, offices, stores, and create more jobs. Developers use the data to decide where to build homes and new neighborhoods. Residents can use the census to support community initiatives involving legislation, quality-of-life, and advocacy.
To make sure every person who lives in Hillsborough County is counted, the County has formed a Complete Count Committee to raise awareness of the importance of the census. If you would like to help Hillsborough County reach a Complete Count, join one of our subcommittees and help get the word out!
