Summer Youth Fire Academy

The Hillsborough County Fire Rescue Foundation offers an exciting opportunity to participate in a free, two week Summer Youth Fire Academy (SYFA). The SYFA is filled with hands-on and classroom activities where you'll learn if you have what it takes to be a first responder. During the two weeks, you will be exposed to a career in the field of firefighting and emergency medicine.

The 2018 SFYA has completed. Program dates and locations for 2019 will be announced in the spring. Check back in April 2019 for applications and deadlines to apply.

  • Fire Ground Operations
  • Hands Only CPR and First Aid
  • Use of Firefighting Bunker Gear
  • Ropes and Knots
  • Fire Behavior
  • Ladder Climb
  • Water Safety
  • Public Education
  • Emergency Dispatch

Eligibility

The program is open to any student or graduating senior, ages 14-18, who are interested in a career in Fire Rescue. After the application deadline, a Fire Rescue panel will make the final selection of approximately 30 SYFA participants for the two week academy.
