HC Adaptive Sports


As a signature program of Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation, the mission of HC Adaptive Sports program is to promote health, independence and personal growth through sports for people with physical and intellectual disabilities.

HC Adaptive Sports provides year-round sports and recreation programs that promote physical activity, healthy lifestyles, and recreational and competitive sports opportunities for children and adults with physical disabilities.

With more than 300 athletes participating each year, HC Adaptive Sports has something for everyone to compete in!

Youth Sports

Recreational and competitive sports for youth (ages 7-22) with physical and intellectual disabilities offered throughout the year. Sports cost $25 to participate and include:

Tampa Bay Wheelchair Buccaneers Football Team

The Tampa Bay Wheelchair Buccaneers Football Team is one of nine national teams that compete in the USA Wheelchair Football League (USAWFL). Tampa Bay Strong Dogs Wheelchair Basketball Team

The Tampa Bay Strong Dogs Wheelchair Football Team has been a competitive part of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) for more than 20 years. The Tampa Bay Strong Dogs features adults with permanent physical disabilities who have a genuine love for the game of basketball. Special Olympics

Hillsborough County Adaptive Sports offers a Special Olympic program with various sports for athletes (ages 8 and up) with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Hillsborough County program follows the standard Special Olympic competition schedule, and the teams compete in the county games, area games, and state games throughout the year.

Veterans Sports

Hillsborough County Adaptive Sports partners with the James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital and the Wounded Warrior Project to provide programming for Veterans free of cost. Archery is offered year-round, while activities such as pickleball, walking club, and bocce ball are at various times of the year. The program aims to provide safe activities for Veterans to participate in while also promoting health and independence.
